We are currently seeking a Quality Engineer for a client in the industrial sector, specialized in turned parts, ball bearings, components for fuel injection systems and other automotive parts. This is a Contractor to Direct hire position based in Arden, NC that requires onsite presence. PURPOSE: 
The Quality Engineer ensures product and process quality by executing quality assurance activities, identifying improvement opportunities, supporting internal and external audits, and maintaining compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in driving continuous improvement and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective quality management practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Investigate reports of product / process nonconformities and improve process performance.
  • Lead structured problem solving for internal and external issues, scrap, rework or returns.
  • Coordinate with customers to return samples for material review.
  • Follow-up/arrange containment, assure accurate counts, identification and disposition of all suspect material. Certify corrected shipments.
  • Drive internal and supplier corrective action with effective cross-functional 8D and root cause analysis; assure effective corrective and preventative actions, verification and timely closure. Provide results/updates to customers as needed.
  • Manage quality audits and special studies, including data collection and analysis.
  • Plan and conduct inspections, product and process audits.
  • Recommend/adjust audit frequencies and/or inspection criteria.
  • Arrange/conduct capability studies and analyze results as needed.
  • Customer satisfaction: lead actions to improve customer scorecards, address audit results and drive reduction in overall ppm.
Maintain and retain documented information in compliance to IATF 16949 and customer requirements.
  • Maintain clear, complete, concise instructions; review, approve and issue documents.
  • Assure current methods reflect best practices.
  • Promote consistent execution throughout the organization.
  • Retain complete, accurate quality records (i.e. PPAP, customer approvals, inspection plans and results, nonconformities, dispositions and 8D status) consistent with company policies.
  • Document results obtained during all quality activities.
  • Coordinate / direct required inspections and documentation of SAMPLE orders.
  • Schedule and monitor product audits and annual validation for active parts.
  • Conduct IATF16949 internal audits, manufacturing process audits (VDA 6.3), support 3rd party certification audits and customer audits as assigned.
  • Prepare performance metrics and management review content.
Assure new/changed products, processes and equipment are managed through Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) approach according to customer requirements.
  • Assure change communication with customer occurs in a timely manner.
  • Complete PPAP submissions as defined by customers.
  • Update process flows, PFMEA's, and Control Plans.
  • Coordinate /perform gage studies per Measurement System Analysis,
  • Conduct/analyze Process Capability Studies.
Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and provides recommended process improvements to management and suppliers.
Support other quality initiatives and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor degree in a technical field, such as Engineering, Statistics, or Sciences.
  • A minimum of 1year in engineering or quality; experience in automotive manufacturing preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • ISO 9001 or IATF16949 internal auditor certification preferred.
  • VDA 6.3 process auditor qualification preferred.
  • Demonstrated “can do” approach, with strong flexible work ethic. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex product drawings with GD&T callouts and gear data. Experience with CMM, Optical comparator, Contour Trace, and/or calibration preferred.
  • Working knowledge of quality system requirements/compliance to ISO 9001 required; knowledge of IATF16949, VDA6.3 and use of AIAG core tools preferred.
  • Strong verbal presentation and clear concise written communication skills appropriate to audience.  Interfaces with different levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing positive collaborative relationships; direct external customer experience preferred.  Contributes to positive teamwork environment.
  • Organizational and time management skills must also be capable of working independently.
  • Ability to understand and apply customer specifications, customer specific and automotive requirements; experience with automotive PPAP requirements and submissions preferred.
  • Experience in structured problem-solving and data analysis; knowledge of quality tools and statistical analysis. Minitab experience preferred.
  • Production Machining – Fabrication – CNC background in Tier 1-2 automotive preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to use a Pallet jack to move product.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and climb or balance. Duties may require a mixture of periods involving standing, walking and sitting.  Must be able to Sit or Stand for 8 hours or more. 
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
  • Location: Arden, NC
  • Schedule: Day shift, 40h/w
  • Travel: Generally, less than 20% may be required to Customer and or supplier locations to resolve quality concerns or complete supplier audits between locations (GmbH) for training and project support.
  • Assignment Start: ASAP, Contractor to Direct Hire
