We are currently seeking a Body CAD Engineer for an assigned project with a client in the automotive industry. The role is based in Novi, MI or Charlotte NC and requires onsite presence and occasional domestics travel. PURPOSE: 
The Body CAD Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and release of body sheet metal stampings and assemblies for next-generation all-electric pickup trucks and rugged SUVs. This role combines advanced CAD expertise with a first-principles engineering approach to deliver optimized solutions that meet cost, weight, performance, and customer experience targets. The engineer will collaborate across functions and with suppliers to support the full product development lifecycle from concept through launch..

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and release body sheet metal stampings and assemblies for new vehicle programs.
  • Design components to meet cost, weight, and vehicle performance targets across all development milestones.
  • Perform section, component, and subsystem analysis to optimize overall vehicle efficiency and structural performance.
  • Support Digital Twin and simulation teams by evaluating durability, NVH, and safety results, and developing engineering solutions for identified issues.
  • Create and develop CAD models to support design studies, concept validation, and production development.
  • Support prototype development for virtual and physical validation, including field testing activities.
  • Proactively evaluate customer experience inputs and propose system-level design improvements.
  • Manage CAD engineering resources and coordinate with supplier partners to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Act as a key member of the Body Structures team and collaborate with all cross-functional Scout teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong experience in sheet metal design and body structure engineering.
  • Proficiency in CATIA for CAD design and development of complex parts and assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of first-principles engineering and structural design fundamentals.
  • Experience across full product development lifecycle: design, testing, and launch.
  • Familiarity with CAE tools and simulation-driven development processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth, and change-driven environment.
  • Experience working with supplier-managed CAD development
  • Experience working in automotive OEM or startup EV environments
  • Background in virtual validation, Digital Twin, or advanced CAE integration
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with Volkswagen
  • Experience with pickup truck or SUV body structures and closures systems
  • Experience in prototype development and physical testing support
  • Strong customer-focused mindset with ability to translate user experience into engineering improvements
  • Willingness to travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
  • Location: Novi, MI or Charlotte NC
  • Schedule: Full Time/ 40 hours per week
  • Travel: domestics travel as required
  • Overtime: as required
  • Assignment Start: June 2026 – December 2030
  • Duration: up to 4.5 years
