PURPOSE:
The role is responsible for managing purchasing and supplier development activities related to production and new model seat and CPM components within the automotive manufacturing environment. The role focuses on ensuring supplier performance across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Development (S-QCDD) while supporting localization, supplier optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage purchasing activities for production and new model automotive parts.
- Monitor and improve supplier performance in Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Development (S-QCDD).
- Prepare RFIs/RFQs, negotiate supplier agreements, and drive annual cost reduction initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while supporting supplier audits, corrective actions, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with R&D, engineering, quality, and suppliers to optimize part design, development, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Support localization activities, sourcing strategies, and supply base development for new and existing vehicle projects.
- Conduct cost analyses and support strategic sourcing and commodity planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes, including 4M change management, BMS, EMS, and SMS requirements.
- Maintain accurate supplier and purchasing data and provide regular reporting and analysis.
- Support cross-functional problem solving, stakeholder management, and continuous improvement initiatives using PDCA methodologies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0–10 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
- Experience with OEMs or automotive component suppliers is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Professional business and technical writing capabilities.
- Negotiation and influencing skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Understanding of supplier management, purchasing processes, and supply chain operations.
- Ability to conduct cost analysis and support strategic sourcing decisions.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as PDCA.
- Strong organizational and project tracking skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with SAP or comparable ERP systems.
- Knowledge of automotive manufacturing and component development processes.
- Familiarity with supplier audits, quality systems, and localization strategies.
- Experience in cost reduction initiatives and commodity strategy planning.
- Understanding of quality management and production process controls.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
- Location: Montgomery, AL
- Schedule: Day shift, 40h/w, weekend as required
- Overtime: as required
